A cover bed is a decorative bed somewhat much like a 4-poster bed. A typical canopy bed normally features posts at each of the 4 corners extending 4 toes excessive or extra above the mattress. Ornate or decorative cloth is commonly draped throughout the higher area between the posts and a strong swath of fabric may create a ceiling, or canopy immediately over the bed.
A 4-poster bed is a bed with 4 vertical columns, one in each corner, that help a tester, or higher (normally rectangular) panel. This tester or panel will usually have rails to permit curtains to be pulled around the bed. There are a selection of antique 4-poster beds extant courting to the 16th century and earlier; many of these early beds are highly ornate and are made from oak. An example of such an early 16th-century 4-poster resides in Crathes Fortress, which was made for the original fortress house owners within the Burnett of Leys family.
