4 Post Bed Canopy

A cover bed is an ornamental bed considerably similar to a four-poster bed. A typical cover bed often options posts at each of the four corners extending four ft high or more above the mattress. Ornate or ornamental fabric is often draped throughout the upper house between the posts and a stable swath of fabric might create a ceiling, or cover straight over the bed.

A four-poster bed is a bed with four vertical columns, one in each nook, that assist a tester, or upper (often rectangular) panel. This tester or panel will typically have rails to allow curtains to be pulled across the bed. There are a variety of antique four-poster beds extant relationship to the sixteenth century and earlier; many of these early beds are extremely ornate and are comprised of oak. An instance of such an early sixteenth-century four-poster resides in Crathes Fort, which was made for the unique fort homeowners in the Burnett of Leys family.
