Bedding, often known as bedclothes or mattress linen, is the materials laid above the mattress of a mattress for hygiene, warmth, protection of the mattress, and decorative effect. Bedding is the removable and washable portion of a human sleeping environment. A number of sets of bedding for every mattress will usually be washed in rotation and/or changed seasonally to enhance sleep consolation at varying room temperatures. In American English, the phrase bedding usually does not embrace the mattress, mattress body, or mattress base (comparable to field-spring), whereas in British English it does. In Australian and New Zealand English, bedding is commonly referred to as manchester.

A set of bedding often consists of a flat or fitted mattress sheet that covers the mattress; a flat prime sheet; both a blanket, quilt, or cover, typically with a cover cover which can exchange or be used along with the highest sheet; and a number of pillows with pillowcases, also referred to as pillow shams. may be added to make sure the required insulation in chilly sleeping areas. A typical practice for kids and a few adults is to decorate a mattress with plush stuffed animals, dolls, and other delicate toys. These aren't included below the designation of bedding, although they may provide extra warmth to the sleeper.
