A table is an item of furniture with a flat high and a number of legs, used as a floor for working at, eating from or on which to position things.Some widespread types of table are the dining room table, which is used for seated persons to eat meals; the espresso table, which is a low table used in living rooms to display objects or serve refreshments; and the bedside table, which is used to position an alarm clock and a lamp. There are additionally a spread of specialised types of tables, corresponding to drafting tables, used for doing architectural drawings, and sewing tables.
A dining room is a room for consuming food. In modern times it's usually adjacent to the kitchen for convenience in serving, though in medieval times it was typically on a wholly completely different floor level. Historically the dining room is furnished with a moderately large dining table and quite a few dining chairs; the commonest form is generally rectangular with armed end chairs and a fair number of un-armed side chairs alongside the lengthy sides.
